Greetings Seniors and Parents of Seniors,
Please be aware that college admissions and financial aid season is upon us! Please note, deadlines are forthcoming and here at Elkins we believe that each student can and will excel when provided the tools and support needed to be successful. We are asking for your support during the next few months to ensure that students stay on track as they work to study for the SAT for free @ www.satpractice.org, study for the ACT for $29.95 @ www.act.org, and apply to college and scholarships @ www.applytexas.org, www.commonapp.org, and via Naviance @ www.connection.naviance.com/leehs.
Below, please find important programs that include deadlines and action items which are imperative for the success of each member of the class of 2017 as they journey to graduation and beyond.

Important Programs
- September 29th,6:45-7:30pm, CCR & Counseling will be hosting Senior Parent Night @ The Elkins HS Auditorium.
- You will not want to miss out on a program focused on graduation requirements, FAFSA instructions, scholarship directions, and career exploration, as well as guidance on how to make students most attractive to college admissions committees.
- September 29th & 30th, each Senior Government & Economics class will attend a working workshop, during the regularly scheduled school day, focused on all of the CCR topics covered during the parent meeting. The one difference is that students will have access to school laptops, and Ipads, as well as their own mobile devices. These presentations will be interactive with students expected to follow along, including registering for a FSA ID to complete FAFSA, requesting letters of rec via Naviance, etc.
- October 19th, 7:30am-12noon, all seniors are asked to dress business professional or in the attire specific to their career (appropriate attire only!) and participate in a college and career exploration conference during the Mega Test day for FBISD. While 9th-11th graders will be taking their PSAT, the class of 2018 will participate in a College & Career Exploration Conference, including:
- An opening address from the Greater Houston Partnerships’ Director of Workforce Development, Michael Webster.
- We will have several rotations for each student to attend, (1) including Presenting Oneself Professionally – An Etiquette Workshop, (2) Career and Job Fair, (3) Admissions & Financial Workshop, and (4) Relevant Workforce Trends presentation.
- Finally, the program will conclude with Willetta Carter, HR Business Analyst for Schneider Electric, who will discuss the impact of globalism on the day to day operations of large international corporations.
