On Thursday, April 21st, Elkins Prograd will be teaming up with Texas A&M Transportation Institute/Teen in the Drivers Seat Program to help simulate the effects that drinking and texting has on drivers. This educational demonstration is open to all students and will take place in conjunction with the Powderpuff Game.

Sometimes just telling people about the risks of distracted or drunk driving isn’t enough; we need to show them. What better way to do this than through a fun, hands-on obstacle course?

The purpose of this activity is to demonstrate how much more effective (and safely) a person can drive if they are not distracted or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Participants experience how alcohol impairs a person’s balance, vision, reaction time, and judgment. Simple activities with the Fatal Vision® Goggles, such as walking a line “heel-to-toe”, standing on one leg, reaching out to grab a set of car keys, or tossing a ball, become effective teaching moments as the participant experiences how susceptible they are to potentially dangerous consequences.
